ChatGPT Edu requires a separate license purchase. Licenses are available for faculty and staff purchase in the software store internal catalog in SIMBA (PSUbuy), which is the University’s authoritative source for purchasing information and current pricing. The University’s ChatGPT Edu licensing is not available to students.
Licensing Tiers
ChatGPT Edu is available in two licensing tiers. While both tiers provide the same core capabilities, they differ in the level of usage available, and the number of credits included.
- Basic Tier (Tier 1)
- Increased Usage Tier — includes Codex and Work (Tier 2)
Penn State AI Assistant & Agentic Tool Access Attestation
The use of ChatGPT Edu agentic tools, including Work and Codex, at Penn State requires users to agree to an Access Attestation.
